Account of a journey through Am Muile/Isle of Mull in which Carmichael describes being in the company of a geologist from London, and the views down the mountain track to Loch Scridain and Loch Ba, and observing a large cairn 'evidently the result of funerals' and a very yellow frog near the summit. He describes the view to loch Ba as 'glorious in the bright sun after the rain the grass sparkline in the sun and every rill laughed gach caochain sa ghleann ri gaire.'

Account of a trip to Ìle/ Islay entitled 'Iain Og Ile' in which Alexander Carmichael describes how he travelled there and his meeting with the Marquis of Lorne before the inauguration of the monument to Iain Òg Ìle [John Francis Campbell of Islay]. He notes the afterdinner speakers, describing his own speech as 'a bungled affair', and also describes Islay House, noting the gardener as Thomas Hill and his connections with the Campbells of Islay.

Scope and Contents Account of 'Clann 'Ic Illemhicheil' [Carmichaels], collected from Eoghan Mac Illemhicheil [Hugh Carmichael], age 80, Druim-na-moine, Apuinn [Druim-na-moina, Apainn/Appin, Earra-Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] in which he describes the family as being the oldest clan in the area (six hundred years), originating in Annat. He gives a brief account of Alexander's own family, the Barons of Taigh Sgurrain: their descent from the Easbaig Bàn or Fair-haired Bishop, and the loss of their lands to Sir Donald...

Scope and Contents Custom collected from Roderick MacNeil, aged 88, crofter, Miùghlaigh/Mingulay about a blessing stone on Bernara an Easpuig [Beàrnaraigh/Berneray] that it was in a stone font in the graveyard and that people who were afraid would go and stroke it. There is also a note about the bishop's house that it 'was up till late and the stone upon which he rested his book while read[ing] is there still.' Description of a ghost 'cosan' seen by a woman at Leitir Ru'altain [Leitir Rubh Altain or Coille na Leitir/Letterwalton, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire], who had called on Cuiralainn [Curalan/St Cyril]. She describes the ghost as 'gu'n bhlagh gun bhoi[dhchead]...scropadh glan a chreuc'.

Diagrams of St Moluag's Catherdral [Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] and accompanying notes which tell how there were human remains dug up from the foundations of the cathedral 'when the dyke was built round the bur[in]g pl[ace] a few y[ea]rs ago.' The diagrams show measurements of walls, niches, windows and doors with some annotations.
